Omaha Kunst des Fechtens was founded in August 15th, 2015 with the purpose of establishing a community focused on the study of Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) in the state of Nebraska and surrounding heartland region.
We specialize in the early Kunst des Fechtens (The Art of Combat) traditions of Johannes Liechtenauer. Later to be known as Grand Master Liechtenauer, he is believed to have been active in the late 14th or early 15th century. We conduct our study based upon the Zettel or Recitals attributed to him in surviving sources to practice of the Art of Combat. The recitals emphasized the use of Ringen (Grappling), lance, spear, sword, and messer.
In addition, members of our club can take part in independent study groups or extracurricular research of other traditions to supplement our efforts in HEMA.
Doors are open to all who wish to take part in this wonderful and supportive ongoing study, and growing community that is HEMA.
